When to Visit Brazil
We recommend you visit Brazil from April to October. During this time, the weather is cooler, and there are fewer crowds. However, remember that the peak season runs from December to March when temperatures rise and sunny days prevail.
What to Bring Back
Don’t forget to pick up unique souvenirs such as cachaça (a sugar-cane spirit), iconic Havaianas flip-flops, a Brazil football jersey, a statuette of Christ the Redeemer, a colourful canga (beach cover-up), Brazilian coffee, samba outfits (especially during Carnaval!), and vibrant handmade crafts like wood-carved sculptures and hammocks.
What to Eat
You’ll want to indulge in delicious local dishes when you visit Brazil. Try barbecued meats, feijoada (a hearty stew of beef, pork, and black beans), pão de queijo (cheese bread), various açaí dishes (a superfood berry from the Amazon), and acarajé (deep-fried black bean patties). Don’t miss delightful desserts like quindim (coconut flan) and brigadeiro (chocolate truffles). Finally, enjoy a refreshing caipirinha cocktail made from sugar cane to complement your meal.
Fun Fact
Brazil derives its name from its national tree, the brazilwood or pau-brasil. In the 16th century, Portuguese colonialists named it after exporting these trees to Europe for dyeing textiles dark red. Interestingly, Europeans often named new lands after their resources, making this name more appealing than the prior title, Terra de Santa Cruz (Land of the Holy Cross).
