Great Britain is home to a splendid collection of religious buildings, but none are more impressive than the cathedrals. Cathedrals are one of the largest draws for visitors.

The Canadian Anglican Heritage Pilgrimage Tour was created to connect people and to foster understanding of a shared past and present-day society. While some might visit religious heritage sites because of their religious beliefs or their search for spiritual fulfilment, others are interested in the cultural and historical significance. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Robert at Total Advantage Travel & Tours, Inc.

DAY 4 – Winchester

Uniquely, it combines a royal castle and cathedral within an Iron Age fortification, and for 150 years was a major centre of both secular and ecclesiastical government. Neither castle nor cathedral was occupied for long. And, in 1226 the cathedral was moved to Salisbury, although the castle remained an administrative centre into the 14th century. Old Sarum lived on, however, as a notorious ‘rotten borough’ which continued to elect members of Parliament until 1832.

The first monument was an early henge monument, built about 5,000 years ago, and the unique stone circle was erected in the late Neolithic period about 2500 BC. In the early Bronze Age many burial mounds were built nearby and today, Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For your information Lincoln Cathedral is located at the top of a rather steep hill in Lincoln. Although your hotel is located just a short walk from the hill that leads to the Cathedral, your coach driver will be happy to take you to the Cathedral from your hotel to avoid the steep walk.

Please liaise with the driver and your guide, Rosemary, to arrange a convenient time for pick up and drop off as required. If you would prefer to make your way to and from the Cathedral independently, there is also a local bus which provides a ‘Steep Hill Shuttle’ service available. It runs from the town to the cathedral on a loop throughout the day.

Discover Your Anglican Ancestry

Xian Extension - Terracotta Warriors - China Tour

Dear Fellow Anglican

As a member of the church and a travel agent I’ve always wanted to discover my Anglican ancestry. The great cathedrals of Great Britain have enticed me into putting together our “The Canadian Anglican Heritage Pilgrimage Tour” for the fall of 2020.

This is a complete tour where you’ll see great cathedrals such as Canterbury Cathedral, Winchester Cathedral, Salisbury Cathedral, Lincoln Cathedral, Guildford Cathedral, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Ely Cathedral, Christchurch Cathedral plus a visit to Westminster Abbey. Along the way we will participate in Holy Communion, Choral Evensong other liturgical services.

Our tour also stops at Lambeth Palace and the mystical Stonehenge. We will have typical English Afternoon Tea. For the first time ever every detail to the Anglican tradition has been included in this historic pilgrimage tour.

While this tour is open to individuals, either in single or double rooms we have not forgotten our Canadian clergy. As an incentive to clergy and group leaders we will offer one free tour, including airfare, with every 19th passenger booked. We can also offer discounts for smaller groups.

Don’t wait. Give us a call today and get you or your group booked on one of our remaining departures for 2020. I look forward to making the pilgrimage with you and fully understanding our Anglican heritage.
